The research company Aptahem announces that its partner Hongene Biotech has produced a test batch of the drug candidate Apta-1 using a new conjugation method. The test showed a purity of approximately 99 percent while production efficiency improved.According to the company, the results strengthen the basis for continued clinical development and future regulatory processes. Aptahem also assesses that the new method may contribute to lower manufacturing costs and improve the conditions ahead of future partner and licensing discussions. No financial details are provided."When we began our collaboration with Hongene, we were clear that the purpose was to reduce manufacturing costs and improve the production process for Apta-1 in several other important ways. This test batch, which is a first step toward further optimizing quality as well as reducing production cost, is a very encouraging result. Improved process efficiency, scalability and the potential for lower production costs are important factors both ahead of upcoming regulatory processes and for future commercial success," says Aptahem CEO Mikael Lindstam in a comment. Aptahem continues."For potential partners, well-established relationships with experienced pharmaceutical manufacturers in themselves constitute an important evaluation parameter, alongside more standardized criteria such as manufacturability and cost efficiency. With these elements now demonstrably in place for Apta-1, the candidate's position in future partner and licensing discussions is strengthened."
